The Room

We booked an Ocean Front Harbor room with two queen beds, but upon check in were upgraded to an Oceanfront Premier room, which are located on the higher floors of the building and offer more panoramic views of the nearby ocean and Waikiki Beach.
The room itself was very clean and bright, with an updated decor that was a welcome change from some of the more traditional rattan and wicker furniture styles of other Hawaii hotels. It included a mini fridge, laptop safe, and private bathroom that featured a Japanese toilet with built-in bidet, separate shower stall and bathtub, as well as a retractable clothing line for us to dry our swimsuits.
By and far, our favorite feature of the room was the massive window, which could completely open up and let in the refreshing ocean breeze. It also had an electronic shade that we could open and lower from a control panel by the bed. We loved standing there and looking out at the stunning blue water, spotting surfers and cruise ships pulling in to dock.

But what about the beach?
The Prince Waikiki is about a 10 minute walk away from the Hilton Hawaiian Village end of Waikiki Beach. While you don’t have to cross any busy streets to get there, you do need to walk along the back end of the hotel near the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, which was a little less than friendly at night. During the day there were locals cleaning off their boats and using the trash facilities for the harbor, but after a few minutes of walking you make it past the harbor and into the start of the beach. And then it’s stunning waters and relaxation as far as the eye can see!
Nearby Attractions
If you don’t feel like going to the beach, you can walk (or drive, ride share or even rent a bicycle) and head to the Ala Moana Shopping Center, the largest open air mall in the world. There’s also plenty of shopping and restaruants on nearby Kalakaua Ave. Overall, it’s a prime location near all the best parts of Honolulu, without being smack dab in the middle of the madness. As long as you don’t mind a few extra minutes walk or drive to get wherever you want to go, it’s a great deal for some prime oceanfront real estate that’s just a tad bit quieter than some of the other beachfront hotels.
